The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is pleased to announce that Akron chapter IMA has won the Remington Rand Trophy (2nd Place Stevenson Division Banner) for the second year in a row.  The chapter also won the Bronze Medal for Public  Relations Competition and the Bronze Medal for Newsletter Competition during the 2017-2018 IMA year.  Chapter representatives will receive the awards during the association’s prestigious event, the 2018 Annual Conference & Exposition, on June 19 in Indianapolis IN.  Akron chapter’s #2 Finish (6,193 competition points) in the WORLD showed the chapter finishing only 99 points behind #1 chapter Hartford CN.  Akron chapter was led again this year by President Linda Garrison, GBS Team Leader in GCTSC Cash Management at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

IMA is one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession.  Each year, IMA recognizes the efforts of the association’s local chapters and councils through different types of recognition, commending outstanding programs in community service, communications and marketing, education and training, and membership development.  IMA’s competition is reported in two divisions: the 74 large-chapter Stevenson division (ranging in size from 114 member Las Vegas chapter to 2,088 member Dubai-UAE chapter) and 77 smaller-chapter Warner division (ranging in size from 24 member El Paso chapter to 120 member Des Moines chapter).  This outstanding #2 Finish is a rare event in the chapter’s 80-year history (the chapter finished #2 only three other times – 2016-17, 1977-78 and 1948-49 – and #1 only once – 1960-61).  The chapter’s 300 members (including non-competition students and retirees) all contributed to Akron chapter’s victory.  The membership includes 62 certified management accountants (CMAs) and 2 CSCAs (Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis).
