printer. You will be receiving them shortly. Thanks to
four people who were able to pull it all together: Jeff

Savage, who sold the advertisements, Gary Floyd,
who linked the advertiser's website to the Chapter's
website, and Ken Bechtol, who coordinated the project
and got everything to the printer. See you on September 19th!

Accountants often juggle multiple assignments at the same time. And while there are certainly instances when multitasking helps you achieve more, you shouldn't automatically assume you are more productive when you try to do everything at once. Working on too many tasks simultaneously can actually diminish both the quantity and quality of your output. Put simply, some endeavors require your undivided attention. Following are multitasking tips that will enhance - not hinder - your productivity: Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. Multitasking mishaps occur when you constantly shuffle priorities, bouncing from one task to another to another. And in the end, none of the projects receive the time and attention they deserve. Boost your productivity by using a tickler file, an erasable whiteboard or some other tool to list and organize your most-pressing demands. Maintain your focus by reviewing the list periodically throughout the day. Give yourself some peace and quiet. Overall, it's important to be an accessible team player. But you can't say yes every time someone makes a request of you. When you're under a tight deadline or reviewing a critical report, consider letting calls go to voicemail and hanging a "Do Not Disturb" sign outside your workspace to minimize interruptions. Use technology to your advantage. Invest in equipment that promotes efficiency. A telephone headset, for example, allows you to take notes while listening to a conference call. Use a recording device to dictate reminders or inspired ideas as they occur to you. While you can't always stop your mind from thinking about items unrelated to the job at hand, you can record your thoughts and go back to them later. Keep in mind, however, that technology can be a tremendous distraction, too. Be disciplined and turn off your electronic devices when they distract you from the critical project you're addressing. Know when not to multitask. Few actions are more disruptive than pecking at your laptop or answering a call in the middle of a group conversation. In short, don't multitask in meetings. It's bad etiquette and can damage your relationship with colleagues who feel disrespected by your lack of courtesy and involvement. Ineffective multitasking reduces concentration and increases errors. Smart, strategic and structured multitasking, however, can help management accountants complete projects swiftly and effectively.
