    President's Message
    Doreen

    Greetings Fellow Akron Chapter Members:

November is a month to reflect on all those things we are thankful for. Many of us are thankful for the friendships and networking the Akron Chapter provides. If you haven't been to a meeting yet, come experience it yourself.

This month, Bob Madison will be speaking before dinner on "The Rewards of Recognition." Our dinner speaker is Ron Seeholzer, who will inform us on "Investor Relations - The Primary Liaison to Wall Street - Bridging the Cap Between the Company and Investors." The meeting will be a week early and at Kent State University, as we recognize the student chapter.

Don't forget that the Professional Development Seminar will be on Friday, December 7th. You can earn 7 CPE for the low cost of $100 for all day or $65 for half day. Still need your 2 hours of ethics? Then sign up! Flyers will be available at the meeting. You can also find it further in the newsletter and on our website, http://www.akron.imanet.org/2007Spe akers/2007pdseminar.pdf

Do you know of someone you work with that is interested in becoming a member of the Akron Chapter of IMA or wished to reconnect with the Chapter? From now through December 15th, they can join for only $145, a savings of 30%. See elsewhere in the newsletter on how they can join.

I wish everyone a safe holiday with family, friends and loved ones.

    Doreen Kuster
    President
    Akron Chapter IMA

Pre Tech - The Rewards of Recognition

    Robert H. Madison
    President , Madison & Associates

Bob Madison is President of Madison & Associates, a consulting firm concentrating in enhancing organizational effectiveness and integrating human performance systems with business strategy. Madison & Associates serves clients in manufacturing, service and the not-for-profit sectors. Assignments have included management performance coaching, team development, career transition counseling, working with startup companies, designing and implementing a major organizational cultural change project.

Prior to establishing his own consulting organization, Bob was Vice President HR for ISK Biosciences Corporation, a major international agricultural and specialty chemicals company headquartered in Mentor, OH. He established the HR department in this company and in two predecessor companies. ISK Biosciences, under Mr. Madison's direction, was acknowledged for leading-edge human resource innovations including "Ingredients for Excellence.", a model for employee commitment. He also developed a unique investment and profit sharing plan, and a compensation program tailored to profit contribution. Earlier, Bob held a number of key HR management positions with SDS Biotech Corporation, Diamond Shamrock Corporation, and PPG Industries.

Bob received his BS degree in Industrial Psychology from Purdue University and attended the University of Michigan Human Resources Executive Management Program. He received advanced training in Organizational Development at UCLA. Bob is active in several professional organizations, including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Human Resource Planning Society, and as a volunteer counselor and Trustee for Hudson Job Search. He is a member of the Personnel Advisory and Appeals Board for the City of Hudson, OH. He was recognized by the Cleveland chapter of SHRM as Outstanding Human Resource Professional of the Year.

Bob teaches regularly at Lakeland Community College, Kirtland, OH and is very active with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob and his wife Sara reside in Hudson, OH.

Tonight, Bob will share some thoughts, based on research and his experience, about the often- neglected area of non-financial rewards and recognition. Too often, organizations feel that the answer to any issue is "more money". Employees are motivated (or de-motivated) by a variety of factors, money being only one of them and often, not the most important. Intentional, well-designed recognition processes can significantly help organizations focus employees on key goals and feel positive about their contribution.

The Annual Program Books went in the mail on September 14. For those chapter members who moved and didn't advise IMA National of their new addresses, we've re-mailed books to forwarding addresses as they were received from the Post Office. Two University of Akron students moved but left no forwarding address - Christopher T. Jarrett (602 Sherman Street - Apt. 31, Akron 44311) and Pravina C. Patil (383 Kling Street, Akron 44311). If you know their new addresses, please advise Ken Bechtol - Ken.Bechtol@davey.com

    Death of Jim Miller

Jim Miller died on October 16 at the age of 80. Jim was a fantastic supporter of IMA, having been a member since July 1953, was chapter president 1962- 63 and was a National Director 1963-64. He graduated from the University of Akron with an MBA where he also taught accounting. Jim was employed by General Tire Corporation for 35 years, where he served as President of the Tire Division, CFO, and retired as Vice President of Administration. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva, and five children and nine grandchildren.
While at General Tire, Jim supported me, Martin Smith, Bob Morris, Dave Brown, Mike Curran, Harold Matney and many other Akron chapter IMA members in our association with IMA and in our personal careers in accounting. We'll truly miss this lion of IMA.
