Technical Session following at 6:15 p.m. Shirley Calvin
Fellow Members, Happy New Year! I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous 2009. This month we have two opportunities for earning CPE. On Tuesday, January 13th, we will have our annual joint meeting with ASWA (American Society of Women Accountants) which happens to be a luncheon at Bober Markey's offices. Our first meeting of the year will be on the 21st. As has been done in the past, we will be not be having a Pre-Tech speaker. We will be having hors d'oevres during an extended networking session and a shortened technical session. The deadline is fast approaching for registering for the upcoming CMA review class at the University of Akron starting in early February. See the separate section below for the details. As we start the New Year, I always look forward to our annual golf outing. I'm usually sick of the cold weather and snow. This year will be the fifth year! Mark your calendars for May 2nd. Dean Hull, Gary Floyd and I are always looking for golfers, volunteers and donations for door prizes and give-aways. I'll see you at either or both of our meetings this month. Invite a co-worker or a guest along with you.

The IMA's 90th Annual Conference & Exposition is set for June 6-10, 2009 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel in Denver CO. Registration will open in early January at IMA's conference website, www.imaconference.org. Among the improvements coming to the 2009 conference are the following: (1) the event will be held in early June (one week earlier than last year, to avoid conflict with Father's Day), (2) it will conclude 1/2 day earlier (to make the conference more convenient for attendees), and (3) IMA and all exhibitors will showcase full exhibit booths as part of planned improvements to the Solutions Showcase exhibit hall. Attendees will be able to choose from nearly 40 sessions and earn up to 20 CPE credits. Sessions will cover costing methodologies, Enterprise Risk Management, performance management, CMA certification, and on-the-job tips & tools. In addition to a bevy of keynote speakers (including David Walker, former U.S. Comptroller General), the speaker slate will include some local Akron favorites - Bill Jelen (MrExcel.com) and Norbert "Nobby" Lewandowski. Please SAVE THE DATE now and include the conference in your 2009 vacation plans. There is an early bird registration discount through February 13.".
